The Spanish bank BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) will not remain the title sponsor of LaLiga at the end of the 2015-16 season, the company announced on 29/09/2015. The partnership began with the 2008-09 season.

BBVA had an option to extend its contract until the end of the 2017-18 season, but indicated a "strategic shift is underway. We are now focusing on the bank's global digital transformation". The annual amount paid by the bank is estimated at €23.5m for the naming contract first two Spanish divisions. The title partnership of the Liga Adelante, the name of the portfolio of offerings and services for BBVA customers, also expires at the end of the 2015-16 season.

LaLiga is now looking for a title sponsor for the Spanish 1st and 2nd divisions from 2016-17. LaLiga generated €35m in sponsorship revenue during the 2013-14 season, an increase of 15% compared to 2012-13.

  • The Spanish bank BBVA is also the title sponsor of Liga MX via its Bancomer brand (as the "Liga Bancomer MX"), the Mexican championship until 2015-16.
