Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), 47, has been elected as President of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) for two years during a congress meeting in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) on the 02/05/2013

He received 33 out of 46 votes, compared to 7 for Worawi Makudi (Thailand) and 6 for Yusuf Al Serkal (UAE). Hafez Al Medlej (Saudi Arabia) withdrew his candidacy on the eve of the vote.

Sheikh Salman replaces Mohamed Bin Hammam (Qatar), banned for life by FIFA in 2011 for violating the code of ethics. Zhang Jilong (China) was acted as interim President.

The new president of the AFC will occupy the vacant position on FIFA's Executive Committee, left by Mohamed Bin Hammam after receiving the life ban.
