"It is neither the first nor the last of Volkswagen's priorities. The financial size of the investment, in terms of the whole Volkswagen Group, is certainly not small. On the other hand, their emotional involvement is huge, which is why I am not worried," said Klaus Allofs, sporting director of VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga) -- who are 100% owned by the automobile group -- to the German daily Die Welt on 27/09/2015. The Volkswagen group is accused of fraud on pollutant emissions tests of more than 11 million vehicles worldwide, and has lost nearly 30% of its market capitalisation since 22/09/2015.

"I can not say anything concrete about Volkswagen's operations, but overall, the signals are clear: in the present state of things, nothing will change for VfL," said the former German international Klaus Allofs. The manufacturer is the main sponsor on the club kit and holds the naming rights to its stadium: the Volkswagen Arena (30,000 seats). The group invested €70m to €80m into the club during the 2014-15 season, according to several German media sources.
