The Swedish broadcasting group MTG (Modern Times Group) has acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast the Barclays Premier League for the 2016-2019 cycle in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, on 02/10/2015. "These markets are incredibly important to the Premier League, with their long-established and knowledgeable fan bases," said Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League.

The matches of the English first division will be broadcast on the pay-TV satellite platform Viasat, on the pay streaming platform Viaplay and "other TV channels of the group," indicated MTG, without specifying whether these would be paid or free channels.

MTG holds the exclusive rights to broadcast the Premier League in Sweden (broadcast on Viasat Premier League HD) and Denmark (TV 2 Sport Premier League HD) since 2010. This is the first time, however, the group will broadcast the English first division in Finland.
