World Cup 2022 in Qatar: FIFA to sanction the use of just 8-10 venues

Qatar, the host country of the 2022 World Cup, could play out the competition in only eight venues, despite the fact that original plans propose the construction of 12 new stadia, according to FIFA and its Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

"We will be pragmatic and we will find the right number" Jerome Valcke told the Associated Press on 03/05/2013, adding that he "did not see the point of having 12 stadiums", given the size of the country.

The Secretary General is expected to authorise the construction of between 8 and 10 new arenas, aware that 8 is the minimum number required by FIFA to host a World Cup.
