Bundesliga: Kappa to terminate its agreement with VfL Wolfsburg and could be replaced by Nike

The Italian sports equipment supplier Kappa will terminate its agreement with VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga) at the end of the 2015-16 season, multiple German media outlets announced on 02/10/2015.

The Italian company, which replaced adidas in July 2014, had a contract running until in 2018-19. However, the deal included a clause allowing the club to prematurely terminate the partnership, which was estimated at €3m per year, excluding bonuses. The 2014-15 Bundesliga runners-up could conclude an agreement with the US brand Nike from the 2016-17 season, according to the German magazine Kicker. The speculated 10-year contract (until 2025-26) would include an allocation more than double the size of the previous amount paid by Kappa.

This new partnership will enable Wolfsburg to overcome any decrease in depreciation owing to the Volkswagen Group, the 100% owners of the club.
