Sandro Rosell will be a candidate to succeed himself in the next election for presidency in 2016, said the current Barcelona FC president on 18/04/2013. He was elected in 2010 by members of the club (the "socios") for a term of six years and a maximum of two terms.

His main objective is to reduce Barca's debt by €200 million by 2016. At the end of the 2011/12 season, the debt stood at €334 million, whereas it had reached €442 million in July 2010. The debt must go below €300 million at the end of the 2012-13 fiscal year.

To achieve this, Sandro Rosell finalised a €171 million, 5 year partnership with the Qatari investment fund Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) in September 2011.

QSI pays €34 million per season for shirt sponsorship (Qatar Foundation from 2011, and Qatar Airways from the 2013-14 season).
