Bundesliga: Volkswagen reaffirms its support to Werder Bremen and extends partnership until 2017-18

The automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has reaffirmed its support for SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga) and extended its partnership until the end of the 2017-18 season, announced the club on 08/10/2015. "Several weeks ago the contract was automatically renewed for two years. We are delighted to continue this great partnership," said Klaus Filbry, the CEO of Werder Bremen.

The extension of the partnership comes as the Volkswagen group is accused of fraud on pollutant emissions tests for more than 11 million vehicles worldwide and has lost nearly 30% of its market capitalisation since 22/09/2015.

The automaker provides vehicles to the players, the staff and the management of Werder Bremen. The brand will remain visible on the LED advertising boards and different areas of the Weser Stadion (42,100 seats). As a major partner, Volkswagen would pay an estimated amount of €1.5m per season. The group is also a partner of Hannover 96 and owns 100% of VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga).
