Bundesliga: Wolfsburg postpones training centre project, following the Volkswagen scandal

"I think it is understandable in the current situation that projects of this magnitude be postponed," said Klaus Allofs, the CEO of VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga) about the proposed new training centre, estimated to cost between €30m and €40m, on 13/10/2015. The automotive group which owns 100% of the club is charged with fraud on pollutant emissions tests on more than 11 million vehicles worldwide, and has lost nearly 30% of its market capitalisation since 22/09/2015.

"In the future, we intend to invest in economically useful sports projects. The intensification and optimisation of youth development teams, in this context, retains a central role," said Klaus Allofs. The construction of the academy on a 32 hectares site had been set to begin in 2017.
