MLS: Minnesota United to build a 20,000-seater stadium in Saint Paul (Minnesota, USA)

Minnesota United FC, a franchise that will join the MLS in 2018, will build a 20,000-seater stadium on the Snelling Midway site in Saint Paul (the capital of Minnesota), announced William McGuire, the owner of the franchise, and Chris Coleman, the mayor of Saint Paul, on 23/10/2015. The stadium project is essential for the franchise's integration into MLS.

“Located between two great downtowns (Minneapolis and Saint Paul are known as the "Twin Cities", situated along multiple transit options and the interstate, and in the heart of a dynamic community, this site provides us the opportunity to work in partnership with the city of Saint Paul and the local community to establish top-tier professional soccer that will be readily accessible to everyone,” said William McGuire. According to the franchise, 1.95 million people live within 30 minutes of the future stadium.

Minnesota United FC has a privately funded pool of $120m (€108.8m). Once it is constructed, the stadium will be owned by the municipality of Saint Paul. The site will therefore apply for tax exempt status, which must be…
