FIFA: Gianni Infantino supported as a presidential candidate by the UEFA Executive Committee

The UEFA Executive Committee has unanimously supported the candidacy of Gianni Infantino, the general secretary of the European confederation "following consultation within Europe and with national federations from across the global football community," UEFA announced on 26/10/2015, the deadline for candidate applications.

Michel Platini, the UEFA president, indicated he filed his application for the presidency of FIFA on 08/10/2015, only hours before he was suspended for 90 days by the FIFA Ethics Committee. "Applications (...) relating to candidates subject to a suspension from all football-related activities will not be processed by the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee while the suspension is valid and in force," announced Domenico Scala, the chairman of the committee, on 20/10/2015.

The Italian-Swiss Gianni Infantino, 45 years old, should be the seventh person to officially file an application for the election scheduled on 26/02/2016, after Michel Platini (FRA, UEFA president) Ali Bin Al Hussein (JOR, former FIFA vice-president), David Nakhid (TRI former Trinidadian international)…
