"The Players' Tribune", a media platform publishing content from athletes, receives $15m investment

"The Players' Tribune", a media platform created by Derek Jeter, the former American professional baseball player, whose content is managed and published directly from top athletes, has organised a fundraising total of $15m (€13.7m as of 29/10/2015), the company announced on 27/10/2015.

"The investments will allow the one-year-old platform to broaden and further develop its multimedia editorial offerings, including written pieces, photography, podcasts and The Players' Tribune Radio. It will also help to significantly expand the site's video content," said The Players' Tribune in a statement on 27/10/2015.

The investors of The Players' Tribune, included Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers player (NBA), as well as two US private equity funds, GenTrust and New Enterprise Associates. The fundraising was held in two phases: an initial investment of $9.5m (€8.45m) in June 2015, and then a second $5.5m (€5m) investment in October 2015. A start-up investment in the company of $3m (€2.22m) was made in July 2014.
