The former footballer, winner of the Ballon d'Or in 2000, had submitted his candidacy for the presidency of FIFA for the previous election on 29/05/2015, before withdrawing a few days before the vote.

Gianni Infantino (45 years old), UEFA secretary general, declared his candidacy for the presidency of FIFA on 26/10/2015, the deadline for applications, four months before the elective extraordinary congress, which will be held in Zurich (SUI), on 26/02/2016.
