FIFA: "If Michel can and wants to be a candidate, I will not run against him" (G. Infantino)

"I'm a candidate and I also have to be able to present myself as who I am: a claimant who the UEFA Executive Committee and the European federations have asked to run. That said, I was very clear: I'm loyal to Michel Platini. Maybe I'll also be criticised for that. I repeat -- if Michel can and wants to be a candidate, I will not run against him," said Gianni Infantino, secretary general of UEFA and candidate for the presidency of FIFA, on 10/11/2015.

Gianni Infantino announced his intention to run for the FIFA presidency on 26/10/2015, the deadline for applications in order to stand for the elections on 26/02/2016. In the statement released on filing his application, on 26/10/2015, Gianni Infantino did not mention the name of Michel Platini or UEFA president's suspension. Michel Platini, also a candidate for the presidency of FIFA, was suspended for 90 days by the FIFA Ethics Committee, on 08/10/2015. His candidacy, like those of the other six candidates, must be validated by the Electoral and Ethics Committees of FIFA, after they have conducted integrity checks.
