Lidl UK, the German chain of supermarkets, has become a partner of the Welsh Association until August 2018, announced the FAW, on 16/11/2015.

The partnership will be activated via the brand's 'Play More Football' programme, to enable 200,000 children, 10% of which will be girls, to take up the sport by 2024. "Lidl is committed to helping to develop the game on a local level - increasing participation of children and developing the next generation of young coaches and leaders. The Play More Football programme is the first of its kind and will be a great platform for Lidl to engage with families," said Jonathan Ford, CEO of the FAW.

Lidl UK has obtained the marketing rights of the players in the Welsh national team, who are currently in eighth place in the FIFA rankings.

  • The German group is also a partner of the FIGC.
  • Wales have qualified for Euro 2016 after finishing second in Group B.
