Portuguese League proposes to the Spanish League an Iberian League competition for their best clubs

"The Portuguese Professional Football League made the first step towards one of its goals for the next four years: the creation of an Iberian League," announced the LPFP after the meeting between Javier Tebas, president LaLiga, with a delegation of the Portuguese League led by its president Pedro Proença, at the Spanish League headquarters in Madrid (ESP) on 18/11/2015.

"Working for the organisation of an Iberian League between the best Portuguese and Spanish clubs" was one of the key points of the former international referee Pablo Proença's programme during his election to the presidency of the Portuguese League in July 2015. "We want to create a new competition, but it remains to be defined, the participating teams, as well as the format," said the LPFP, which raises the possibility of a competition placed rather late in the season to not create any interference with national and European competitions during the season.
