Eurosport: creation of a team dedicated to the Olympic Games and divided into five areas

Eurosport and its parent company Discovery Communications announced the creation of a team dedicated to the company's strategy and organisation for broadcasting the Olympic Games, on 30/11/2015. The two entities have acquired the exclusive rights for TV broadcasting (free and pay-TV) and all platforms to the Olympics for the 2018 to 2024 period in 48 European countries to €1.3bn on 29/06/2015.

This new team will be built around five areas:
• Commercialization - led by Jean-Thierry Augustin
• Operations & Planning - led by David Schafer
• Olympic Relations & Coordination- led by Géraldine Filiol
• Engineering/Technology - to be appointed
• Production - to be appointed.

For France and the United Kingdom, Discovery holds the TV rights to the Olympics for 2022 and 2024

  • Eurosport and Discovery Communications acquired the broadcasting rights for the editions of the Olympics in 2018 (winter) in Pyeongchang (South Korea); 2020 (summer) in Tokyo (Japan); 2022 (winter) in Beijing (China); and 2024 (summer) host not yet awarded.
