Twitter: rankings of the European Top 5 clubs (December 2015)

The Liga BBVA has become the first league to surpass the 40 million cumulative followers of its 20 clubs on Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank on 07/12/2015.

The Spanish league ahead of the Premier League, which totals more than 34 million followers, the Serie A (9.9 million), Ligue 1 (9 million) and the Bundesliga (6.7 million). FC Barcelona and Real Madrid comprise more than three quarters of the total Twitter community of La Liga.

With 31.4 million followers -- across all accounts -- FC Barcelona remains the most popular club on the social network. the club leads its rival, Real Madrid CF (27.7 million), Chelsea FC (7.49 million), Manchester United FC (7.3 million) and Arsenal FC (6.6 million).
