FIFA: 36-member Council to replace the Executive Committee, President to become 'ambassador'

The separation of policy and management functions within FIFA is one of the key elements of the measures presented by the FIFA 2016 Reform Committee, and unanimously accepted by the Executive Committee, on 03/12/2015.

To separate policy functions and executive functions, the Reform Committee recommended replacing the current FIFA Executive Committee (25 members) with a "FIFA Council". This new body, which will include 36 members, will be responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of FIFA, but not oversee, as the Executive Committee currently does, the management of the day-to-day business and operations of the international federation. These tasks will now go to the secretary general of FIFA, who will act as the CEO of the entity, responsible for "implementing the policies and strategies defined and directed by the Council".
