CONCACAF: Alfredo Hawit's successor as president shall be elected at the congress on 12/05/2016

"CONCACAF today announced that the confederation’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to not appoint a successor president of CONCACAF and to operate the confederation through the members of the Executive Committee as a whole until a new president is democratically elected by its member associations. The vote will take place at the 31st CONCACAF ordinary congress on 12/05/2016, in Mexico City," announced the confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean, on 07/12/2015.

The Honduran Alfredo Hawit, president of CONCACAF -- like the Paraguayan Juan Angel Napout, president of CONMEBOL -- was arrested in Zurich (SUI) and detained for extradition to the United States on 03/12/2015. Alfredo Hawit was indicted by the US Department of Justice on 03/12/2015. He is suspected, along with 15 other leaders (six from CONCACAF) charged the same day, of racketeering, financial fraud and money laundering.
