The Spanish telecommunications operator Telefonica has acquired the exclusive distribution rights of the Barclays Premier League in Spain for the 2016-2019 cycle, on 04/12/2015.

In 2015-16, these broadcasting rights were shared between the pay-TV channels Canal+ Fútbol (DTS group, owned by Telefonica) and beIN Sports (joint venture between Mediapro and beIN Media Group).

English Premier League matches will be broadcast on the pay-TV platform Movistar+, as well as the internet and mobile platform Yomvi. The amount of the acquisition is expected to be $6m (€7m) per season, according to the Spanish media, compared to the €3m per year paid by DTS during the 2013-2016 cycle.
