Norway: Discovery acquires TV rights to the Tippeligaen for €42m per season (2017-2022)

Discovery Networks Norway, a subsidiary of the US group Discovery Communications, has acquired the domestic broadcasting rights to Tippeligaen (Norwegian first division) and OBOS-ligaen (Norwegian second division), on 10/12/2015.

The agreement, concluded with Norsk Toppfotball (Norwegian Professional Football League) and the NFF (Norwegian Football Federation), covers the 2017 to 2022 seasons of the Norwegian professional championships. All games will be broadcast live on the pay-TV channels MAX and Eurosport Norge, as well as the internet and mobile platform Eurosport Player. A selection of the best games will also be broadcast live on the free-TV TVNorge.

"This is the most important audiovisual contract in the history of Norwegian sport," says Discovery Networks Norway on 10/12/2015. The Norwegian and British media estimated the sum of 2.4bn Norwegian crowns (€252.7m on 14/12/2015) or €42.1m on average for each of the six years of the contract.
