Germany: ARD and ZDF sublicense the rights for 6 games of Euro 2016 to ProSiebenSat.1

The German public broadcasting groups ARD and ZDF have sublicensed the exclusive broadcasting rights, in Germany, to 6 of the 51 games of Euro 2016 to the private group ProSiebenSat.1, on 18/12/2015. The rights were sold by SportA, the marketing and media rights agency owned by ARD and ZDF. No financial details were disclosed.

The rights concern the 6 games of Matchday 3 of the Euro 2016 group stage, played between Sunday 19 and Wednesday 22/06/2016. In each of the six groups of the competition, the two matches on this final Matchday will take place simultaneously. ARD and ZDF have the first choice of distribution, while the second match will be broadcast live and exclusively by the private free-TV channel Sat.1.

ARD and ZDF retain the exclusive broadcast rights of the 45 other matches in the tournament, including those of the German national team (at least 22 games each, the broadcaster for the final has not yet been disclosed). This is the first time that Sat.1, which began broadcasting on 01/01/1984, has broadcast European Championship matches. kabel eins, the free-TV channel…
