2017-2021 Bundesliga TV rights: broadcasters and Bayern Munich want to break the monopoly of Sky

A delegation made up of multiple media and telecom operators, but notably those of FC Bayern Munich, have asked the German federal office of competition (anti-monopoly) to introduce, in the bidding for the 2017-2021 domestic TV rights to the Bundesliga, a rule prohibiting a single broadcaster from acquiring all the broadcasting rights to the German first division, according to the newspaper FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) on 18/12/2015.

Led by Dieter Hahn, the chairman of the supervisory board of Constantin Medien (group owning Bild newspaper and Sport1 television), the delegation includes representatives from Deutsche Telekom and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the board of FC Bayern Munich. "We face a big problem in Germany: the pay-TV market is dominated de facto by a monopoly," said the Bayern leader about the broadcaster Sky Deutschland on 17/05/2015.
