Portugal: FC Porto sell its TV rights to Portugal Telecom for €457.5m (2018-2028 period)

Portugal Telecom, a subsidiary of the Dutch holding company of telecommunications groups and cable operators Altice, has acquired the audiovisual rights for the home matches of FC Porto in the Liga NOS, on 27/12/2015. The contract covers the 2018-19 to the 2027-28 seasons, and amounts to €457.5m total, or €45.7m on average per season.

This contract takes effect at the end of the current agreement which binds the Portuguese club with the audiovisual group Olivedesportos, which owns the Sport.TV channels, and holds the rights to broadcast FC Porto home matches for the 2013-14 to 2017-18 seasons, for €20.7m per season.

Presented by FC Porto as "the biggest in the history of Portuguese sport" (in terms of total amount, and not the per season average amount; see SL Benfica below), the contract will also enable Portugal Telecom to manage the marketing of advertising spaces at the Estádio do Dragão (80,000 seats) for the 2018-19 to 2027-28 seasons, to broadcast Porto TV channel of the club from 01/01/2016 to 30/06/2028, and become the main sponsor of the club -- with a presence on the club…
