"Today (05/01/2016), Marcus Antonio Vicente, vice-president of the CBF, resigned from his post as acting president of the organisation. Following his resignation, Marco Polo Del Nero will return as president of the CBF," announced the Brazilian Football Federation on 05/01/2016.

Marco Polo Del Nero (74 years old), had been temporarily suspended as president of the CBF, on 03/12/2015, when he was charged by the United States Department of Justice, along 15 other people suspected of extortion, financial fraud and money laundering. "The president Marco Polo Del Nero had applied for a leave of absence in order to devote himself to preparing his defence after seeing his name mentioned in the procedures of the US justice and the FIFA Ethics Committee," indicated the CBF on 03/12/2015.

Several Brazilian media sources indicate that Marco Polo Del Nero is expected to be provisionally suspended by the FIFA Ethics Committee in January 2016, before being sanctioned with a suspension of several years by the international federation.
