NFL: three franchises (Chargers, Raiders, Rams) are candidates for a move to Los Angeles

The St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders officially filed applications with the NFL for relocation to Los Angeles (California), on 04/01/2016. Since 1995, Los Angeles is the only major US market without an NFL franchise.

The Rams, originally based in Cleveland (Ohio), settled in Los Angeles in 1946 before leaving the Californian metropolis to move to St. Louis (Missouri) in February 1995. The Oakland Raiders moved to LA in 1982, before returning to Oakland (located in the San Francisco Bay area of California) in August 1995. The Chargers played their first season in the NFL in Los Angeles in 1960 before heading to San Diego (extreme south of California) in 1961.

Three special committees -- Los Angeles Opportunities, Stadium, and Finance committees -- were held in New York on 06 and 07/01/2016 in the presence of the leadership of the NFL and franchise owners. The owners of the 32 franchises will choose one or two of these nominations at an NFL meeting in Houston(Texas) on 12 and 13/01/2016.
