CBF: Marco Polo Del Nero interrupts his role as president of the Brazilian Federation

"The CBF announces that Marco Polo Del Nero, for personal reasons, has voluntarily interrupted his role as president of the CBF for a period of up to 150 days and has designated the vice-president Antonio Carlos Nunes de Lima as interim president from 08/01/2016," announced the Brazilian Football Federation on 07/01/2016.

Marco Polo Del Nero (74 years old) temporarily interrupted his role as president of the CBF for the first time on 03/12/2015, when he was charged by the United States Department of Justice, along with 15 other people suspected of extortion, financial fraud and money laundering. He resumed his post on 05/01/2016, thus ending the reign of interim president Marcus Antonio Vicente, one of four vice-presidents of the CBF, who had been appointed during his absence.

Marco Polo Del Nero had justified his first withdrawal from the presidency by his desire "to dedicate himself to his defence", while several Brazilian media sources indicated that Marco Polo Del Nero was expected to be provisionally suspended by the FIFA Ethics Committee in January 2016, before being…
