Twitter: rankings of the European Top 5 clubs (January 2016)

The Liga BBVA, with nearly 41 million followers of its 20 clubs, is the most popular European championship on Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 13/01/2016.

Real Madrid CF (17.88 million) and FC Barcelona (16.52 million) represent over three quarters of the total community of followers in the Spanish league, ahead of the Premier League which totals over 35 million followers. The Serie A TIM (10.2 million) is the third most popular league, followed by Ligue 1 (9.2 million) and the Bundesliga (6.9 million).

With 31.9 million cumulative followers across all of their accounts, FC Barcelona top the list of the most popular clubs on the social network. They are ahead of Real Madrid CF (28.5 million), Chelsea FC (7.63 million), Manchester United FC (7.54 million) and Arsenal FC (6.7 million).
