FIFA: Atlético and Real Madrid handed transfer bans for two windows (summer 2016 and winter 2017)

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF (Liga BBVA) for offences relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18 years old, announced FIFA on 14/01/2016.

"Both clubs are to serve a transfer ban that prevents them from registering any players at national and international level for the next two complete and consecutive registration periods for breaching articles 5, 9, 19 and 19bis as well as annexes 2 and 3 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players," said the international federation.

Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid have been banned from signing new players in the 2016 summer market and the 2017 winter transfer period. FIFA have also imposed fines of 900,000 Swiss francs (€822,000) for Atlético and 360,000 Swiss francs (€333,000) for Real. FC Barcelona (Liga BBVA) had been banned from signing new players for two transfer periods (the 2015 summer and winter transfer markets) for similar offenses, on 02/04/2014.
