France: high court recommended to reject the appeal of the LFP and uphold 3 promotions/relegations

A hearing regarding the system of promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for 2015-16 was convened at the French Council of State (high court) on 13/01/2016. According to the French public prosecutor, Xavier Domino, the FFF was within its rights -- as a delegate to serve the public mission -- to annul the decision of the LFP to limit the number of promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 to two movements (instead of the current three).

The LFP had filed the appeal after the rejection of the league's first application (in Autumn 2015) for interim measures against the decision of the FFF Executive Committee to annul, on behalf of the "best interests of French football", the vote by the board, in favour of the LFP to limit the number of promotions and relegations to two for the 2015-16 season.

In the vast majority of cases the recommendation of the public prosecutor is supported by the Council of State, thus suggesting that the 2015-16 season could remain with the "status quo" system of three promotions and relegations between the top two French divisions…
