Video games: 2.5 million participants for the FIFA Interactive World Cup (+91.3%)

The 2013 FIFA Interactive World Cup has had 2.5m participants, an increase of 91.3% compared to 2012 (1.3m) and a new record.

The tournament for the EA Sports FIFA series on Playstation 3 is held each year to find the world's best player. Participants are selected via online qualifiers or national competitions held in France, England, Spain and Germany.

The 2013 Grand Final, held in Madrid from 06-08/05/2013, will decide the 21 best virtual footballers. The winner will receive $20k (€15k) and will receive an invite to the next FIFA Ballon d'Or gala in Zurich.
