Italy: €2.7bn spent in sports betting agencies in 2015 (+3.1% from 2014), including 17.6% in Naples

€2.7bn in bets have been registered by legal sports betting agencies in Italy in 2015, announced trans-alpine media on 13/01/2016. This figure represents an increase of 3.1% compared to 2014 (€2.62bn), the year of the World Cup in Brazil.

Official figures are expected be published by the Agenzia delle Dogane e Monopoli (Agency for Customs and Monopolies) over the course of April 2016.

Naples is the Italian city with the highest concentration of sports betting agencies, with 1,210 legal agencies that collected €476m bets (or 17.6% of total), ahead of Rome (€208m, 7.7%) and Milan (€160m, 5.9%).

  • At a regional level in Italy, it is the Campania region -- of which Naples is the capital -- which bet the most money, with €710m in sports bets recorded in 2015 (26.3% of the national total).
