Club Atlético de Madrid (Liga BBVA) and Sevilla FC (Liga BBVA) will plant a "olive tree of peace" blessed by Pope Francis at the Vicente Calderon (55,000 seats) before the start of the match between the two clubs (Liga BBVA, Matchday 21), on 24/01/2016, kick-off at 16:00 CET.

This initiative is part of the operation "Clásicos por la paz" (essentially: "Derbys for Peace") launched in August 2013 by the global network of Scholas Ocurrentes schools. A partner of Club Atlético de Madrid's partner since November 2015, this network was created under the leadership of Pope Francis and brings together 400,000 schools across the world, with the aim of promoting peace between people through education.

  • The first "olive tree of peace" was planted for the friendly match between Italy and Argentina (1-2), at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in August 2013.
  • Since then, numerous sports events, including matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, haven been included in this operation.
