France: a committee of Ligue 1 presidents set up to select the next CEO of the league

A selection committee, composed of presidents of Ligue 1 clubs -- expected to include Jean-Michel Aulas (Olympique de Lyonnais), Bernard Caïazzo (AS Saint-Etienne) and Waldemar Kita (FC Nantes), along with additional names -- has been set up to participate in the selection of the next CEO of the LFP, who will soon succeed Jean-Pierre Hugues, sources indicated to News Tank Football on 22/01/2016.

Club presidents do not want Frederic Thiriez, the president of the LFP, to be the only person to choose the future director. A headhunter firm was contracted to select candidates to succeed Jean-Pierre Hugues. The firm should establish a short list of contenders that will then be interviewed.

Reforms toward executive management with extended powers

Among the new reforms in the governance of the league, which have been drafted in 2015, are:

  • A redefinition of the powers of the president and CEO, with a transfer from the first to the second of the executive management, on the model of what the FIFA may decide at its elective congress of 26/02/2016.
