UEFA: no presidential election proceedings before the end of the legal process for Michel Platini

"The UEFA Executive Committee decided there will be no UEFA presidential election scheduled until the sports justice appeal bodies, including potentially the Court of Arbitration for Sport, have taken a decision regarding Michel Platini’s suspension," UEFA announced, following the meeting of its Executive Committee in Nyon (SUI) on 22/01/2016.

Michel Platini, who announced his candidacy for the presidency of FIFA on 08/10/2015, was suspended for eight years for any activity in football by the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee on 21/12/2015. He was found guilty of « conflict of interest » and « mismanagement » because of a controversial payment of 2 million Swiss francs (€1.54m at the time of payment), on 01/02/2011, concerning his role as an advisor to Joseph Blatter, president of FIFA, from 1999 to 2002. Joseph Blatter has also been suspended for eight years on 21/12/2015. The election of the successor of Swiss to the presidency of FIFA will take place during the extraordinary congress of the international federation in Zurich (SUI) on 26/02/2016.
