UEFA: goal-line technology will be used at Euro 2016 and in the 2016-17 Champions League

"The use of goal-line technology was approved for the final tournament of UEFA Euro 2016 in France, as well as for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League from the play-offs onwards," announced UEFA, following the meeting of its Executive Committee in Nyon (SUI) on 22/01/2016.

Goal-line technology (which determines whether or not the ball has completely crossed the line) is currently not used in any UEFA competitions. The decision of the Executive Committee was based on the support of the UEFA Referees Committee about the complementarity between goal-line technology and the additional assistant referee.

"The UEFA Executive Committee also decided to look into the feasibility of implementing goal-line technology in the UEFA Europa League, from the group stage onwards, starting in the 2017/18 season," said UEFA.

    • Bundesliga (GER)
    • Serie A TIM (ITA)
