Fox Sports: first boxing match broadcast live in virtual reality with the NextVR on 23/01/2016

The pay-TV group Fox Sports announced, on 20/01/2016, the live broadcast of the first North American boxing match in virtual reality, in partnership with NextVR, the audiovisual production company specialising in virtual reality, on FOX channel 23/01/2016 at 20:00 EST (East Coast time of the United States).

NextVR, which installed multiple high-definition cameras around the ring to provide an immersive experience, also included sports commentary and visual indicators displayed in real time on the virtual reality device. Virtual reality users had to download the app NextVR on compatible smartphones for the match.

"We continue to explore ways to offer FOX Sports viewers the most current and immersive technology available. Sports fans expect FOX to be on the cutting edge with all of our broadcasts, and through the FOX Lab initiative, we will continue to experiment with new and exciting technologies with all of our partners," said David Nathanson, the head of business operations for Fox Sports.
