The closing date of the 2016 Spanish winter transfer window has been moved back from 29/01 to 01/02/2016, announced LaLiga on 25/01/2016. "(This change will) thus coincide with the time limit set in most European professional leagues," said the Spanish League.

The 2016 winter transfer window opened in France, England and Germany on Saturday, 02/01/2016 at 00:00 hours CET. In Italy and Spain, the market opened on Monday, 04/01/2016 at the same time. Spain was the only one of the five major European championships to have a different closing date from 01/02/2016.

  • The 98 clubs in the Top 5 European leagues -- Premier League, Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 -- spent €387.8m and received €258.1m during the winter transfer window in 2015, a negative balance of transfer payments of €129.7m.
