"The Ad-hoc Electoral Committee has formally admitted and declared the candidates eligible for the election of the office of FIFA president at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress," announced the international federation in a statement sent to the 209 member associations on 26/01/2016.

26/01/2016, one month before the Electoral Congress on 26/02/2016, was the date by which the secretary general had to provide the names of the candidates for election to the FIFA presidency (according to Article 24, paragraph 2 of the FIFA Statutes) to the member associations.

The five candidates "officially recognised" by the Ad-hoc Election Committee are:
• Ali Bin Al Hussein (Jordan)
• Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain)
• Jérôme Champagne (France)
• Gianni Infantino (Switzerland)
• Tokyo Sexwale (South Africa)

These five candidates had already been approved by the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee, on 09/11/2015.

  • "The secretary general shall notify the members of the names of proposed candidates at least one month before the date of the Congress," states Article 24 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Statutes.
