Facebook: rankings of the European Top 5 leagues (February 2016)

The Premier League is the most popular European championship on Facebook, with more than 218.5 million cumulative fans across its 20 clubs playing in the 2015-16 season, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 01/02/2016.

Only 6 of the 20 Premier League clubs have less than one million fans. The Liga BBVA is the second most popular league with 198.9 million cumulative fans (90 million of which belong to FC Barcelona and 86.6 million to Real Madrid CF). The Serie A TIM completes the podium with 66.69 million cumulative Facebook fans.

  • Leicester City FC (Premier League) have recorded an increase of 20.1% of its Facebook fans, increasing from 1.149 million to 1.381 million fans. The previous month, the club increased its fan base by 48.7%.
    • Leicester City are top of the English first division in 2015-16 with 50 points, three points ahead of Manchester City FC, in second place (47 points) after 24 matchdays.
