FIFA: the Executive Committee of the African Confederation supports the candidacy of Sheikh Salman

The CAF Executive Committee has announced its support of the candidacy of Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa for the FIFA presidency, following its meeting in Kigali (Rwanda), on 05/02/2016.

This is the fourth Executive Committee of a confederation to officially express their support of a candidate for the election of a successor to Joseph Blatter at the head of the International Federation, at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress in Zurich (SUI), on 26/02/2016. The Executive Committees of both UEFA and CONMEBOL have announced their support for Gianni Infantino (SUI), while the AFC supports the candidacy of Sheikh Salman.

The three other presidential candidates, Ali Bin Al Hussein (JOR), Jérôme Champagne (FRA) and Tokyo Sexwale (RSA) have not received the official support of any confederation. As of 05/02/2016, neither CONCACAF or the OFC have announced their official support of a candidate.

  • In the previous FIFA presidential election CAF had supported the candidacy of Joseph Blatter (SUI), who was re-elected for a fifth term (2015-2019), on 29/05/2015.
