ECA: the creation of a European Super League discussed at the 16th General Assembly in Paris

"I believe both ECA and UEFA are interested in an evolution of the competitions. Stagnation means regression. We have always jointly looked into ways to further develop and improve the competitions. It is important to find a good and balanced solution for everyone involved," stated Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the ECA, at the 16th General Assembly of the organisation in Paris (FRA) on 09/02/2016.

"We should not exclude that, in the future, we could create a European championship with the top clubs from Italy, Germany, England, Spain and France under the auspices of UEFA or a private organisation," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had said at a conference on Financial Fair Play in Milan (ITA) on 13/01/2016, adding: "The best teams are becoming stronger compared to others in the major leagues, and another championship is already being conceived of beyond the Champions League."
