Altice: "If we are in English football, we could also move into French football" (Nicolas Rotkoff)

"For now, we are first of all going to stick with English football. The rights for French football have been sold until 2020. This leaves us a little time to prove ourselves and see how our customers respond to this first evolution. In one or two years, we can take stock. Then we will see whether we will get involved or not," said Nicolas Rotkoff, director of Altice Entertainment & Sports, on 09/02/2016.

Altice acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast the Barclays Premier League, in France and Monaco, for the 2016-2019 cycle on 26/11/2015. The Dutch holding company (telecommunications, cable operators), which owns SFR - Numericable, MCS TV and the subscription VOD service "Zive", will pay more than €300m over the period, or 58% more than the current broadcaster, Canal+, during the 2013-2016 cycle (an estimated €190m).

"If we are in English football, we could also move into French football, I will not tell you otherwise. But this is not the order of the day and this is not the priority. I'm not saying fantasies by telling you that we will buy all rights to Ligue 1 in 2020," said…
