"I think Forest Green Rovers is a name that is detached from geography in a way that Birmingham City and Swansea City aren’t. That makes it a little bit more mystical, a little bit more magical. You know, ‘Forest Green Rovers, the greenest club in football’," said Dale Vince, the founder of the renewable-energy firm Ecotricity and owner of Forest Green Rovers FC (Vanarama National League, English 5th division), to News Tank Football on 26/04/2016.

"We saw an opportunity to bring our message to this new world of football - us being Ecotricity - we thought it would be an opportunity to take our message to a new audience relatively untouched by the green message: football. The actual name on the shirt wasn’t part of the original plan. But I see that as a small part of it anyway because our name is on the club as it were - it’s what we do," added the Gloucestershire club's owner.
