Manchester City establish twentieth Major League Soccer franchise in New York

On the 21/05/2013, the MLS (Major League Soccer) announced that Manchester City (ENG, Premier League) have joined forces with the New York Yankees (USA, Major League Baseball) to create the 20^th football franchise in the American league.

The English club becomes the majority shareholder of New York City Football Club, who will join the MLS in 2015. According to the New York Times on the 21/05/2013, the price of starting the club is estimated at $100m (€77.4m) of which $25m (€19.3m) was provided by the Yankees.

Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City will appoint the new club's management in the coming weeks.

According to the MLS on the 21/05/2013, the urban area of New York/New Jersey has several million viewers interested in watching football and two million people who play it regularly.

Discussions are held, since 2012, between the MLS, the new owners of the New York City FC, the mayor of New York and local communities to choose a site in the New York metropolitan area, where the building stage of the new franchise, by 2017 or 2018.
