FIFA: Franz Beckenbauer sanctioned for failing to cooperate with an Ethics Committee investigation

Franz Beckenbauer, the honorary president of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) and former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, has received a fine and a warning from the FIFA Ethics Committee for failing to cooperate in its investigation into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, the international federation announced on 17/02/2016.

The former German international was fined 7,000 CHF (€6,336) for failing to cooperate with the investigation "despite repeated requests for his assistance", including requests to provide information during an interview and to respond to written questions in both German and English. "Mr Beckenbauer thus did not behave in accordance with the general rules of conduct, thereby violating Article 13 of the FIFA Code of Ethics. In addition, the adjudicatory chamber found Mr Beckenbauer to have violated Article 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting) and Article 42 (General obligation to collaborate)," said FIFA on 17/02/2016.
