"I have received significant support around the world, and am happy with how the campaign has gone so far. So I go into the final week with confidence for the future of FIFA," said Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), president of the AFC and candidate for the FIFA presidency, on 18/02/2016.

Sheikh Salman announced, on 18/02/2016, that he will remain in Zurich (SUI) until the date of the Extraordinary FIFA Congress to elect a successor to Joseph Blatter (SUI) at the head of the international federation, on 26/02/2016. He had originally planned to continue his travels to meet the presidents of federations in the final days before the election.

Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has the support of the Executive Committees of the AFC and the CAF. Both full bodies represent a total of 100 federations (54 in Africa and 46 in Asia), or 47.8% of the 209 federations that take part in the election on 26/02/2016, but each federation is free to vote for whom it prefers, as the election is held by secret ballot.
