"The Ad-hoc Electoral Committee officially declared five candidates eligible for election as FIFA president at the Extraordinary Congress of FIFA," stated the international federation, with 209 member federations, on 26/01/2016.

On 26/01/2016, one month to the day before the Electoral Congress on 26/02/2016, was the date by which the FIFA secretary general had to communicate to member federations the candidates which would appear on the ballot for election to the FIFA presidency (Article 24, Paragraph 2 of the FIFA Statutes). These five candidate applications had earlier been validated by the FIFA Ad-hoc Electoral Committee on 09/11/2015.

The five candidates "officially declared eligible" by the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee are:
• Ali Bin Al Hussein (Jordan)
• Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain)
• Jérôme Champagne (France)
• Gianni Infantino (Switzerland)
• Tokyo Sexwale (South Africa)

News Tank Football has reviewed the five candidates, presenting their programmes, their recent statements, and their support from member federations of FIFA.
