Italy: Vivendi submit an offer to acquire a majority stake in Mediaset Premium

Vivendi, the French media and telecommunications group, has submitted an offer to acquire a majority stake in Mediaset Premium, the pay-TV subsidiary of the Italian broadcaster Mediaset (owned by Silvio Berlusconi), on 21/02/2016.

The proposal made by Vivendi, in cash and stocks, would value Mediaset Premium at €900m, according to the Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera on 21/02/2016. The two groups disagree on the size of the offer, deemed insufficient by Mediaset, according to multiple French and Italian media outlets.

Since September 2014, the Italian and international economic press have reported that the Qatari audiovisual group Al Jazeera (the parent company of the beIN Sport pay-TV channels) or Vivendi (the owner of the French pay-TV group Canal+) would attempt to buy into the capitol of Mediaset Premium.
